Responsible for developing, implementing, modifying and evaluating music therapy services designed to restore, maintain or improve cognitive, physical, emotional and social functioning of children, teens and young adults and their families, pertinent to units assigned within Pediatrics through the Child Life and Arts for Healing Department.

EDUCATION
Bachelors Degree in Music Therapy or equivalent as required for eligibility for certification by the American Music Therapy Association. Master's level preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1-2 years' experience working as a music therapist with children in a healthcare environment preferred; or the equivalent of 2 year's full time experience as music therapist with children in a school or other community setting with specific expertise in working with children with special needs., Board Certified (MT-BC) by the American Music Therapy Association.
LICENSURE
AMTA board certification (MT-BC), CT licensure preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of a variety of music therapy principles, techniques and methods and the ability to adapt interventions to address patient needs, abilities, and interests. Psychosocial needs and behaviors of hospitalized children and families with working knowledge of how to facilitate music therapy in a hospital environment with individuals and groups. Professional level of knowledge and skill in growth and development, therapeutic play, provision of coping strategies and support during hospitalization and related treatments. Understanding of the child and family effects of common childhood illnesses and injuries Skills: Competence in music performance, comfortable with singing and instrumental play on a variety of instruments. Competence in basic music technology including recording, editing, and digital instruments Strong interpersonal skills evident in the implementation of music therapy services, establishes effective professional relationships and communication with staff, patients, families, artists, media, etc. Strong time management, communication and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Able to lift at least 25lbs.; must comply with appropriate OSHA, HIPAA and JCAHO standards relevant to position.
Additional Information:Board Certified (MT-BC) by the American Music Therapy Association. Experience in pediatric healthcare settings.
